This was a great script from Human which had set design written all over it, and we were determined to get the spot as a one-take to make the most out of the effortless idea. We had just nine days to design and build the moving set, transforming the couple's station wagon to their living room, to a hire car and back to the (now-repaired) station wagon again. Rear-projection was just one of a number of approaches we ended up using, including forced-perspective set builds, printed flats, miniatures and real props.

Scott has just completed the video component for a vast Puccini opera The Girl of the Golden West, which opens at the Sydney Opera House tonight. Though one of his lesser known works, Puccini felt that this epic opera, set in the goldmining wild west of America, was his finest. Opera director Nigel Jamieson asked Anderson to make his vision come to life turning the opera into a cinematic homage to black and white film and spaghetti westerns. Anderson's video 'trailer' for the overture opens the opera and his video is present throughout the show using front and rear video projections across the walls, ceiling, floor and furniture to transform the set, befitting the onstage melodrama whilst also playing with tricks of forced perspective and illusion.

The Girl of the Golden West runs at the Sydney Opera House from July 14th to the 6th August.

ACCIDENTS HAPPEN is a brash and moving comedy about family, fate and misfortune in American suburbia. The manicured lawns of 1980’s New England imply an order that simply doesn’t exist for the Conway family, headed by razor-tongued Gloria. Youngest son Billy has been a witness to a series of tragic accidents, including one that fractured his whole family. Always the good boy, Billy takes up with the neighbourhood troublemaker in acts of delicious delinquency in a world already spinning out of control. The ensuing collision of guilt, truth and self discovery may be just what his family needs to move on.
